Artist Bio::
Brian Taborne is a hobbyist photographer from Vestal, NY. He’s practiced and worked doing video collectively for over a decade but only found a real interest in photography in the past couple of years. His photographic work focuses on landscapes, natural environments, and the people in them.

Brian got into film photography back in 2021 when his fellow peers introduced him to the craft. He purchased his first film camera that same year and was instantly hooked on the visual aesthetic of celluloid film. The saturation of colors, contrast, and grain felt like looking into a different world to him, and his inspiration grew and flourished from there. Over his time of utilizing film, he noticed a central theme in his photography that was “natural things in natural places”. Thus, inspiring the theme of this art exhibition.

Brian Taborne received his Associates Degree in Communications/Media Arts from SUNY Broome in 2018. He worked on many short films in his time there and met many great friends who share similar interests through the media arts program. In Fall of 2018, he transferred to SUNY New Paltz where he got his Bachelor’s of Science in Digital Media Production. After graduating in 2020, Brian worked on different freelance projects that inspired him to keep developing his skills and knowledge in the world of art.

Artist Statement:
Au Naturel focuses on natural things in natural environments. I’ve noticed over my time of taking photos that I enjoy presenting the world as it is and not manipulating anything in camera or after the photo is taken. Natural and practical lighting is something I strive for, as it’s how we all see the world on a daily basis. The world isn’t seen in studio lighting.

One principle I’ve tried to stick to on my photography journey is taking photos of light first and objects second. I am a firm believer that any environment or object, no matter how objectively “ugly” it is, can look beautiful with the right lighting and composition. Strong sunlight hitting some healthy, green foliage in the summertime is a personal favorite lighting condition of mine.
