Artist Statement:

This exhibition is a love letter to two of the most influential people in my life: my grandfather William Norman Paugh and dear friend David R. Corbett Sr., both of whom were sources of endless encouragement and inspiration. It is also a tribute to the Binghamton area, with a particular focus on astronomy, aviation, nature, and Binghamton’s beautiful architecture.

Being autistic affects my photography in such a way that I can see the beauty in things that others might not. I can take something “ugly” and turn it into the most fascinating thing when I’m done. You can find beauty in anything; in a world full of negativity, there’s still so much beauty to be had.

Artist Biography:

Julian was born and raised in Binghamton. His father is a musician, his mother is a multi-talented artist.

Julian’s first exposure to photography was as a child, taking portraits of his family with his grandfather’s old Polaroid. As a teenager, he was gifted a point-and-shoot. Encouraged by friends and family, Julian began to seriously consider a future in photography. He met with his cousin – a fellow photographer – who inspired him to use his work as a lens into the mind of someone dealing with anxiety, depression, and autism.

Julian studied communications at SUNY Broome.
