Artist Statement:

"One Thousand Words" is a gallery that reflects my journey from emotional isolation to profound human connection, achieved through the art of portrait photography. Initially distanced from deep emotional ties, I discovered in photography a powerful medium for bridging gaps between myself and others. It became more than a method of capturing images; it evolved into a vibrant channel for engagement, understanding, and connection.

The heart of this transformation lay in the interactions during each photoshoot. As my subjects and I shared stories and experiences, the camera became a secondary character in a deeper narrative of human connection. These exchanges, filled with vulnerability and trust, allowed us to explore and express a spectrum of emotions, from pure joy to the complexities of anger, loss, fear, pain, and depression. It was in these moments of shared humanity that the true essence of my subjects came to light, enabling me to capture portraits that were not just visually striking but emotionally resonant.

The portraits in "One Thousand Words" thus embody these emotional journeys. Each image is a testament to the power of connection in unveiling the multitude of layers that define us. They invite viewers to look beyond the façade, to engage with the stories of joy, struggle, resilience, and vulnerability that each subject shares. This collection is not just a showcase of my photographic skills, but a narrative of my own growth and connection with others, a journey where each photograph reveals a deeper story, echoing our shared human experiences.

Artist Bio:

With one word I would describe myself simply as an ‘Artist”. With a non traditional approach to portrait photography and the usage of mixed mediums and concepts to create final products it is hard to place my work into a simple descriptive box.

About Me:

I was born 01/03/1988 and grew up in Binghamton NY. I have spent my life hunting adventures and chasing my dream of becoming an artist. For me, art was a way to find my voice. From a young age, I always felt distant from people and found it hard to open up to my peers. With art, whether it was music or doodling in a notepad I felt like I could actually express myself. However being withdrawn, and struggles with depression eventually led to a suicide attempt in my adolescence.

After High school, I joined the Marine Corps and served honorably in OIF campaigns before eventually getting injured and receiving a medical discharge. I spent several years afterwards lost and looking for my place in society moving around and exploring the world.

Eventually, I went to college for both business and visual communications. For the first time in my life, I took my studies seriously and made the dean’s list almost every semester and shortly after graduating. I got a job in my field and became a photographer. I worked for a company that did school and sports photography in upstate NY. I photographed weddings on the side throughout Binghamton downstate and central New York. Business came naturally to me so I quickly became successful. However no matter how far I traveled out or the amount of clients I booked I never felt accomplished.

Tragedy then struck as one of my best friend’s and daughter both passed away within a year of each other. I was once again broken to my core and took a year off of photography, closing my business and only helping out when needed by a few people. In my time off I knew I needed to do something to avoid slipping back into old habits. I went back to what made me happy as a child; creating art.

I opened Silent Portraits, and now dedicate my time and energy into creating art and expressing myself. I use my platform to talk about suicide awareness, PTSD, and domestic violence. But I also try to bring light into the world and show beauty and bring laughter into people’s homes by making light of life.

My Life has brought me down many roads and allowed me to meet and work with amazing people and learn about their walks. It is my honor and privilege to be able to share my work with you. Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me.
