Artist Statement:

The works in this exhibit have two things in common: they are rude, and they are made of junk.

The pieces are “rude” in that they are ugly, offensive, crass, or overly sexual. Many of them reflect aspects of our society that are unpleasant or embarrassing. Although the works may be rude, they tend to be very stylized, which makes it easier for the viewer to confront them. A few of them also may seem funny, but in a crude way.

The works in this show have been fashioned from a wide variety of junk: objects found curbside, items culled from the garbage, cheap crap from China, and long-lost articles rediscovered in my attic. The fact is that every day, millions of items are thrown away. These items constitute a treasure-trove of materials that can be recycled and made into art.
