Artist Bio:

I’ve moved around all my life, living in Vermont, Georgia, and Hudson Valley New York, then finally to Vestal New York. I have interacted with all different kinds of people across the country and have experienced events that I will never forget. The diversity and constant change that I’ve been through is a very important part of my artistic process and the reason each of my pieces express an individual distinction from one another. I work on canvas, drawing paper and watercolor paper. I use acrylic, oil and enamel paint, with chalk pastel, charcoal and graphite pencil. I also create on walls, clothes and wood pieces as I am inspired. My work has many layers, as it is being developed, and I am joining the different medium and building texture by an evolving inspiration of the first idea of each work. I have always been influenced by the love and appreciation of, and creation of art in my entire family. I have been in museums since birth, exposed to music, dance, craft, and any and all forms of artistic expression my family could give me as experience.

Artist Statement:

Throughout my life, the majority of my works have been formed from observations and strong emotional connections and feelings that living souls encounter each day. My work represents the deep thoughts of humanity, the thoughts that no one ever tells each other or gets to know about, and the thoughts that can’t be typed out but only seen and understood through imagery and creativity. I use various mediums and layering techniques that I’ve developed, to give a texturized, uneven, colorful surface on my canvas after complete. The imagery you will see in my works are organic and applied on the canvas in a purposeful vigorous but very precise manner with whatever medium that seems to work alongside the subject in which I’m creating. I create art to connect to the viewer and evoke them to take the time to look closely and pay attention to the hidden details, the details to push them to dig deeper into their own emotional and spiritual lives. I also create my work to get my internal processes out through visual creativity. I am absolutely infatuated by the idea of being able to transfer anything that is on your mind, through imagery, that the world can see. I plan on continuing to create art for the rest of my life because it is a serious part of me and my development as a person. I have been making art and expressing myself for as long as I can remember.

I picked these portfolio pieces because they represent work I have done in the past year. All five were made during a period of change in my life when I was using my art to work through internal conflicts. The imagery in these pieces show the experiences that I have learned from, and unanswered questions I have about society and the people of my generation. The extensive process that these works were created from ends in every detail being precisely placed, which results in my own style.
